A voice can be the reason you choose a recording. It can also be exactly what you do not want tonight. Begin there before browsing dozens of titles. If you want narration, decide whether you would prefer a story or instructions for a guided practice.
The formats can overlap. Headspace’s sleep collection includes several kinds of audio, while Lalai separates stories, music, and sounds in its offering.↗↗ Use those labels to start exploring, then inspect the actual recording.
Choose a texture
Without narration, you might prefer musical phrases or the impression of an environment. Rain, a river, and a quiet musical piece are different invitations. One is not automatically more suitable simply because its name includes “sleep.”
You may already have a sound you like on your device. Apple’s Background Sounds is one option to inspect before adding another app.↗ The chooser below is intended to clarify a preference, not to make every result a purchase recommendation.

Decide how much control you want
Some evenings, selecting one thing may be enough. On others, arranging a little fire beneath rain may be enjoyable. A mixer is useful if you want to make those choices; it is not a requirement for a complete listening experience.
The questions below use your selections to suggest a starting format. If you choose words, the result points to stories. Without words, your texture choice points to music or environmental sound. Your control preference adds a suggestion about keeping it simple or trying a blend.

Let the result be a beginning
The tool has no clinical scoring, collects no email address, and does not save your answers. You can change them and try again. It describes what you said you want to hear, not who you are or what will improve your sleep.
All three routes are explained below the form, so you can skip the questions entirely. Lalai’s app is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad; its story descriptions and browser sound demonstrations give you places to explore while deciding what appeals.
