Calm vs Calm Sleep: what’s different, and do you need both?
The names are close. The subscriptions are separate. Here is how to tell which app you are looking at before you pay.

Sources & review notes ↗Start with the app name
It is easy to see “Calm” on a screen and assume you have found the same product in a different place. In this case, that assumption can lead to buying the wrong subscription. Calm describes its main app as a broader wellness offering and Calm Sleep as a dedicated sleep app.↗
Look at the full name on the store listing and the purchase confirmation. An article about Calm Sleep may describe tools or offers that do not belong to the main Calm app. Keep that distinction in mind when reading a comparison, too.
Calm
The broader offering, covering meditation and other wellness content as well as sleep.
Calm Sleep
A separate app centered on sleep. Check its own subscription details.

One login does not mean one purchase
Calm says you can use the same login credentials for both apps. Its subscription guidance separately states that a purchase in one cannot be applied to or restored in the other.↗↗
Before starting another plan, open the subscription you already have and check its name. Then compare it with the exact offer in front of you. If the names or entitlements remain unclear, ask Calm support before paying again. A successful login alone is not evidence that Premium is included.

Choose the content, then the subscription
You do not need both simply because both exist. Write down what you actually want: a favorite narrator, meditation sessions, a particular story, or a sound you can leave playing. Find that content first. A second subscription only makes sense if its additional offering is something you want to use.
For a wider view of the main app, our Lalai and Calm comparison looks at the bedtime experience rather than treating every feature as equally important.
Where Lalai fits
Lalai is another option to explore if your interest is a painted story world or a sound blend you choose yourself. Start with the setting: a snowy train, a tea house in the rain, or an observatory after dark. You can browse those worlds here, and the app is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
That is a different decision from whether your Calm subscription transfers. Settle the subscription question first; then choose the experience that appeals to you. Our guide to Lalai’s free offering explains what is included without a trial.
