Is Calm free? Sleep content, Premium, and trials explained
A free download, a free recording, and a free trial are three different things. Here is how to tell them apart.

Picture your evening / Illustrative sceneCalm offers selected free content, including sleep content. Premium access and subscription trials are separate from that free selection.
Sources & review notes ↗Yes, there is free content
Calm’s current help page lists free sleep content alongside other free sessions. Its Premium guide also distinguishes selected free access from the larger paid offering. It would be inaccurate to say you must subscribe to hear anything at all.↗↗
We are not giving a fixed number of free stories here. Catalogs change, and counts can refer to sessions rather than only narrated stories. Open the current free-content guide and inspect the particular item you want to hear.
Free content
Content you can access without starting a paid subscription trial. Check the individual item.
Free trial
Temporary access under an offer that may become a paid subscription. Read the terms before accepting.

Read the offer, not just the button
“Try free” can describe a subscription trial. It does not necessarily mean the recording stays available after that trial ends. Calm’s billing guidance explains renewing plans and the difference between monthly and annual billing.↗
Before accepting an offer, find the first charge date, the amount due, the billing period, and the cancellation instructions. If an annual price is also shown as a monthly equivalent, check the actual amount charged at renewal. Save the confirmation so you do not have to reconstruct the details later.

Choose one recording before choosing a plan
Start with the voice and format. A subscription can offer plenty of content and still lack the particular kind of narration you enjoy. Use available previews or free items to narrow your choice before comparing paid catalogs.
Do the same check if you see an offer for Calm Sleep: it is a separate product. Our Calm versus Calm Sleep guide explains why an existing Calm subscription does not automatically settle that purchase.
How Lalai’s free offering differs
Lalai’s published free selection includes Night Train, 14 sounds, and six music pieces, along with the mixer and timer. That selection is described separately from a subscription trial, and does not require a Lalai account.↗
The app is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Before you download it, you can read exactly what is included and explore the story collection now. Compare the specific things you would use, rather than assuming “free” means the same arrangement everywhere.
