Picture your evening / Illustrative scene
Keep the part
you came for.
Headspace sleepcasts combine a wind-down with an atmospheric narrated setting.↗ If that is what you enjoy, look for those ingredients when considering something else. The word “story” by itself does not tell you how an audio piece behaves.
Lalai’s approach is to follow unhurried activities in a particular place. In Caravanserai on the Salt Road, the evening gathers around lamps, bread and a warm rooftop. There is a voice to listen to and a painted world to look at.↗
This is an alternative format to explore, not an imitation of Headspace content. Lalai does not carry Headspace sleepcasts. Its stories, characters and samples are its own.
We make Lalai. Our preference here is based on its fit for listeners who want another immersive setting, not a claim that it outperforms another app.
Follow your listening preference.

Stay for
the first few words.
Caravanserai on the Salt Road. 58 minutes in full. Part of the paid app collection. This player contains only the opening sample.
Get the app for all 58 minutes, explore this story or open the sample audio.

Look beyond
the running time.
A longer recording is not automatically a better match. Consider what happens during that time. Is there an introduction? Does the voice stay prominent? Is the setting somewhere you want to revisit?
Lalai’s stories run 55–63 minutes.↗ The website excerpts are much shorter. Their purpose is to introduce the voice and atmosphere; they do not demonstrate an entire story’s progression.
If you are moving from one app to another, check the actual free offer before starting a trial. Lalai’s planned free app selection includes Night Train, while other story previews on this site are not a promise of free full-length access.
See Lalai vs Headspace for the direct format comparison.
Try a place, not a promise.
Rain
A mountain tea house and its quiet closing routine.
Stars
An observatory or a warm courtyard under the night sky.
Water
A slow river journey, with a little houseboat as your room.
