The first play
does two jobs.
Lalai’s app is designed to stream a remote audio file while also saving a local copy. Once a download finishes successfully, later playback can use that copy. That is the basis of its offline listening feature.
Opening a story briefly is not the same as completing its downloads. A long story can contain multiple audio files, and its ambience is another part of the experience. A connection that drops early can leave some of that audio unavailable.
This guide is based on Lalai’s implementation and support information, not a completed flight test on your device. The app is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Before you travel, check the exact story and device you plan to take.
Browser samples on this website are separate from the app cache. Playing a sample here does not prepare the full app story for offline use.↗
Prepare. Disconnect. Check.
While connected
Open and play the content you want in the app. Leave time for downloads, including later story sections and background audio.
Try without a connection
Before leaving, turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data and reopen your selected content. Check more than the first moments.
Check your actual setup
Test the sounds, music and later story sections you expect to use. Reconnect if anything is missing.
A useful precaution: prepare another listening option if being offline is essential. A successful brief test cannot guarantee that every part of a long story has been cached.

Stay for
the first few words.
Houseboat on the Slow River. 63 minutes in full. Part of the paid app collection. This player contains only the opening sample.
Get the app for all 63 minutes, explore this story or open the sample audio.

A saved copy
is not a permanent archive.
The app stores these audio copies in its cache. Clearing downloaded audio removes them. Reinstalling the app or a device clearing cached files can also mean you need to download content again.
A changed audio file may need a fresh copy. Paid content also remains subject to subscription access; this is not a promise of permanent offline entitlement after a subscription ends.
If the app cannot use a local copy, it may need to stream instead. That is why checking before you travel matters more than simply remembering that you played the title last month.
See offline support for the published product guidance and support if playback is not behaving as expected.

Pack a small
listening collection.
Pick the actual story, sound mix and music piece you want, then check each one. A focused selection is easier to prepare than assuming an entire catalog will be available.
The Houseboat excerpt below is an introduction to one possible destination. It is not the full recording and does not demonstrate offline app behavior.
For a narrated journey, explore the seven story settings. For ambience without words, start with a simple sound recipe. The best travel preparation is knowing which content you mean to use.
