Sources & review notes ↗A collection with many voices
Insight Timer’s story page brings together tracks by different creators, and its developer listing describes a broader meditation and listening library. The story page includes free tracks as well as links to paid offerings; “everything is free” would be too broad a description.↗↗
That variety may appeal if discovering a new teacher, narrator, or style is part of what you enjoy. Look at individual descriptions rather than expecting everything under “stories” to share the same structure or audience.

A shelf you can see at a glance
Lalai takes a smaller approach to its current story collection. There are seven illustrated worlds, with published runtimes from 55 to 63 minutes. You can survey the collection without sorting through hundreds of titles.↗
A small shelf is not automatically a better shelf. It is useful if its particular stories are ones you want to revisit. If none of the settings appeals, the number of options is beside the point.

Find the preference underneath the search
Ask yourself what you mean when you say you want a new story. Do you want a different narrator, a shorter session, a familiar place, or simply something you have not heard before? Those lead to different choices.
For a particular duration or creator, exploring a broad library may be worthwhile. For an illustrated place you can recognize immediately, start with Lalai’s guide to the seven worlds. A train journey and an observatory evening make quite different invitations.
Free access is worth checking precisely
Lalai’s published free offering includes Night Train, 14 sounds, and six music pieces. It is separate from a trial, and the app is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.↗
On Insight Timer, inspect the specific track and any membership features you intend to use. Compare what is available for your chosen listening experience, not just the word “free” in a headline. Our free-story guide explains the difference between a full recording, a sample, and a trial.
