Lalai vs Slumber: choosing your bedtime story library
Look beyond the number of titles. Consider how you find a story, what plays underneath it, and what you want to return to.

Sources & review notes ↗There is overlap worth acknowledging
Slumber’s official site and developer listing describe bedtime stories and meditation content. Its site also documents background sounds and episode downloads. Those are real reasons to consider it, rather than features to leave out of a comparison.↗↗
Lalai’s story collection is smaller: seven illustrated settings with published running times close to an hour. The choice is partly about discovery. Do you enjoy exploring a wide shelf, or would you like to recognize the whole collection quickly?↗
The useful differences.
Lalai appears first because this is our guide. Choose by the features and listening styles you value.

Think about the second evening
The first browse can be enjoyable in almost any well-presented library. The more revealing question is what you would open on another evening. Can you find the story you chose? Do you remember its setting? Is there another voice or scene you want to explore?
If your answer is “I would keep returning to the houseboat,” that is a good reason to look at Houseboat on the Slow River. If your favorite narrator is already on Slumber, that matters too. No feature table can replace a preference for a particular recording.

Background sound and downloads
Slumber explains that background sounds can continue after a story and that episodes can be downloaded. Read its current controls if either feature matters to you.↗
Lalai’s offline playback depends on complete local downloads. Starting a stream is not the same as knowing every required file has finished downloading. Before travel, test the exact story offline; our offline guide explains the distinction. This is practical preparation, not a claim that either app is uniquely capable of offline use.
A good place to begin
For Lalai, choose a place before considering the whole collection. A tea house suggests a small, sheltered scene. A river journey suggests gentle movement. An observatory suggests a different kind of evening altogether.
For Slumber, explore its current story selection and the controls it documents. Then compare the things you would use. Lalai’s app is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and the collection you can browse here is an introduction to its worlds.
